About Me

Hello I am Ed, a slightly eccentric neurodivergent individual with a penchant for creativity. I started filmmaking out a passion to show the beauty of the world & its details, leading me away from my previous career as a machinist whilst retaining the hardworking and practical mindset I built from my years in the workshop. I have worked on a number of projects for previous employers & independently to build my skill with the many aspects of filmmaking... and I don't intend to stop anytime soon!

Hadean Films is the name I choose to work under, it is synonymous with Edward Laxton currently.

Summer is here!

Thought I’d share a few pics of my garden which I have managed with wildlife as a priority for nearly 6 years now. While there are plenty of none native plants here, all are good for bees and I have a wide selection of native wildflowers as well as the exotic ones.

The last picture is an aerial shot with the wildlife garden in the middle, it was taken during the spring drought we had this year and how green it is be comparison shows how much more resilient a ‘wild’ garden is than a traditional well maintained lawn.

Great spotted woodpecker drumming! This is a male probable trying to attract a mate and intimidate neighbours rather than look for food. These birds can deliver a staggering 40 strikes per second, not sure this one quite got up to that (feel free to try and count them 😆). The second time he drums I slowed it down to 1/4 the speed.

The Transporter bridge Middlesbrough, built in 1911 it is one of the most unique river crossings in the world. At over 113 years old it’s due a to be restored in the next 5 years, hopefully using money from the cancelled northern section of the HS2 project. This will involve lifting the entire top section of the bridge off to be stripped and restored in a warehouse (probably locally).

Contrary to several myths going around the bridge is not in imminent danger of collapse. The issues are mostly rust and other things you’d expect to find on an old steel structure, the bridges closure is preventative so the issues don’t become serious.

It is hoped this iconic structure will be functional again in around 5 years.

All this information is according to the Transporter bridge visitor centre as Dec 2024.
